GETTING STARTED
What do I need to start a project?
You do not need to have everything prepared before contacting us.
Depending on the project, you can send us any combination of:
- Sketches
- Reference images
- Measurements
- Tech pack, if available
- Existing garment or physical reference sample
- Fabric and trim information
- Intended production quantity
We will review what you have and let you know what is still needed before development begins.
Do I need a tech pack?
No. A complete tech pack is helpful, but it is not required to work with Final Row.
If you have clear measurements, sizing, reference images, construction instructions, or a physical reference garment, we can often proceed directly into pattern making and sampling.
If a tech pack would be beneficial for your project, we will let you know. Tech pack creation is also available through Final Row, starting at $150 per style.
Can I start with only a sketch or reference images?
Yes. Many clients contact us before all technical details have been finalized.
We can review sketches, reference images, existing garments, measurements, or other available information and determine what is required to translate the concept into a physical garment.
Do you work with emerging designers and new brands?
Yes. We work with independent designers, emerging brands, and established labels.
You do not need an internal technical or production team to work with us. We can provide support from development through production depending on what your project requires.
What types of garments do you work with?
We develop and produce a wide range of men's, women's, and unisex ready-to-wear garments.
Our capabilities include many woven and cut-and-sew categories, from relatively straightforward garments to more structured and technically involved pieces. Specialized knitwear development and production are also available.
We do not claim to manufacture every type of garment or construction. If a project requires techniques or equipment outside our capabilities, we will tell you before accepting the project.
PATTERN MAKING & SAMPLING
Do you provide pattern making?
Yes. Professional pattern development is available through our New York studio.
Patterns can be developed from sketches, measurements, reference images, existing garments, or tech packs.
Pattern pricing generally starts around $150 per style and varies depending on garment construction and complexity.
How much does a sample cost?
Sample pricing depends on the garment and construction.
Basic sample making starts around $120, while more complex garments, linings, tailoring, multiple layers, specialized construction, or detailed finishing will cost more.
We publish general starting prices on our website so you can understand the approximate development cost before contacting us. The final price is confirmed after we review the actual project.
How long does sampling take?
Most New York sample development takes approximately 1–2 weeks once we have the information and materials necessary to begin.
Complex garments, substantial development, additional fittings, material delays, or multiple corrections may require additional time.
Do I need to provide fabric and trims for sampling?
Generally, yes.
For sample development, we recommend that clients provide the fabric and trims they intend to use. This keeps sampling faster and more cost-efficient and allows us to evaluate the garment using the intended materials.
If you cannot provide materials, sourcing assistance may be available. Let us know when submitting the project.
Can you make a pattern and sample from an existing garment?
Yes. A physical reference garment can be extremely useful for understanding fit, construction, proportion, and finishing.
Tell us whether you want to reproduce the existing garment closely or use it only as a reference for a new design.
Can you work with my existing pattern?
Yes. If you already have a pattern, we can review it and proceed with sample making if it is production-ready.
If corrections are required, we can also modify the pattern before or after fitting.
What happens if the first sample needs corrections?
That is a normal part of garment development.
We can evaluate the sample, identify necessary fit or construction changes, correct the pattern, and produce another sample when required.
Additional samples or extensive design changes may involve additional charges, which will be discussed before proceeding.
Who owns the pattern?
You do.
Patterns, grading, and technical development created and paid for by the client belong to the client.
If you decide to produce elsewhere in the future, your development materials can be transferred for use with another manufacturer.
Can I receive a digital pattern?
Yes. Our development process uses professional production patterns, and digitization can be arranged for an additional fee when digital pattern files are required.
SOURCING & FULL PACKAGE
Do you provide fabric and trim sourcing?
Yes. Final Row provides sourcing assistance for clients who need help preparing materials for production.
We can assist with:
- Fabrics and linings
- Buttons and zippers
- Elastics
- Hardware and trims
- Woven labels
- Care and content labels
- Size labels
- Hangtags
- Inventory stickers
- Poly bags
- Other production components
How much does sourcing cost?
Our basic sourcing service starts with a $150 service fee.
Material costs are separate and depend on the selected fabric, trims, quantities, supplier requirements, and shipping.
More extensive or specialized sourcing projects may require additional development or sourcing fees, which are confirmed before proceeding.
Is the $150 sourcing fee included in the material cost?
No. The sourcing fee covers our service in identifying and coordinating appropriate materials.
Fabric, trims, labels, shipping, and other physical material costs are billed separately.
Can I provide my own materials?
Absolutely. Clients are welcome to provide their own fabrics, trims, labels, and packaging.
In many cases, especially during sampling, we recommend this because it can reduce both development time and cost.
Do you offer full-package production?
Yes. For clients who do not want to coordinate multiple suppliers independently, Final Row can manage a full-package production program.
SOURCING → GRADING → CUTTING → PRODUCTION → QUALITY CONTROL → LABELS → HANGTAGS → PACKAGING → SHIPPING COORDINATION
The goal is to provide finished goods prepared for the client's next step, whether that is fulfillment, wholesale, retail, or direct-to-consumer sales.
Is everything included in the production unit price?
Not automatically.
Production can be structured with client-supplied materials or as a more complete full-package program, depending on the project.
Fabric, trims, labels, packaging, sourcing, shipping, and other components are quoted according to what Final Row is actually providing.
We prefer to clearly identify these costs before production rather than advertise an artificially simple all-inclusive unit price.
PRODUCTION
What is your production MOQ?
Our standard New York production MOQ starts at approximately 40 pieces per style.
Actual minimums may vary depending on garment construction, materials, color breakdown, and production requirements.
For larger production programs, additional manufacturing options are available.
How long does production take?
New York small-batch production typically takes approximately 4–6 weeks once the sample is approved and all necessary production materials are ready.
Lead times can vary depending on quantity, construction, materials, current production schedule, and finishing requirements.
We confirm a realistic production schedule before production begins.
How is production pricing determined?
Production pricing depends on the actual garment.
Major factors include:
- Construction
- Number of operations
- Quantity
- Fabric and trims
- Finishing
- Specialized machinery
- Size and color breakdown
- Labels and packaging
- Production location
We review the approved sample or complete production information before confirming final pricing.
Does ordering more pieces lower the unit price?
Often, yes. Larger production quantities can improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce the unit cost.
However, materials, construction, labor, finishing, and production location also affect pricing.
We can quote different quantity levels when appropriate so you can compare your options.
Why can striped, plaid, or printed fabrics cost more to produce?
Fabrics requiring visual alignment may require additional material and labor.
Stripes, plaids, checks, directional prints, and engineered patterns can require more careful marker planning, cutting, seam matching, pocket placement, and sewing.
They may also increase fabric consumption because pattern pieces cannot always be positioned as efficiently as they can with solid fabrics.
Any additional cost is reviewed before production.
Do you provide grading and cutting?
Yes. Once the base pattern and sample are approved, size grading, marking, and production cutting can be arranged through Final Row.
Pricing depends on the garment, number of sizes, quantity, and production requirements.
Can you handle larger production orders?
Yes. Final Row is not limited to 40-piece production runs.
For larger quantities, we review the garment, target pricing, quantity, timeline, and manufacturing requirements and determine the most appropriate production option.
NEW YORK & OVERSEAS PRODUCTION
Is everything manufactured in New York?
No — and we prefer to be transparent about that.
Our New York Garment District studio handles pattern development, sampling, fittings, corrections, and small-batch production.
For larger quantities or products requiring specialized manufacturing capabilities, production can also be managed through facilities in South Korea and selected locations in Asia.
The appropriate production location depends on the project.
Why would I choose New York production?
New York production can be particularly useful when:
- Quantities are smaller
- Close communication is important
- The product is still being developed
- Faster development feedback is needed
- The brand wants to limit initial inventory
- Close local oversight is valuable
It allows development and manufacturing to remain closely connected.
Why would I choose production in South Korea or Asia?
As quantities increase, overseas production may provide:
- More efficient unit costs
- Greater production capacity
- Access to specialized machinery
- Broader material resources
- Manufacturing expertise for specific product categories
- Better scalability for larger programs
We do not automatically recommend overseas production simply because it may be less expensive.
We consider quality, construction, quantity, materials, lead time, shipping, and total production value before recommending a production option.
How do you manage quality for overseas production?
Final Row remains involved in the project.
The approved sample and confirmed specifications remain the production reference, and we coordinate production communication and quality-control requirements throughout the manufacturing process.
Depending on the project, this can include material confirmation, construction, measurements, workmanship, labels, finishing, packaging, and final quantity verification.
Moving production overseas does not mean the client is left to manage an overseas factory independently.
What about communication with overseas production?
Clients continue working through Final Row.
We coordinate the relevant production communication so the client does not need to independently manage multiple overseas factories, suppliers, and production contacts.
This is particularly useful when translating approved New York development into larger production.
How is overseas shipping handled?
International shipping can be coordinated as part of the production program.
Shipping costs are quoted separately because they depend on shipment size, weight, destination, transportation method, delivery speed, and current freight conditions.
For time-sensitive projects, we consider production and shipping together when estimating the overall timeline.
KNITWEAR
Do you produce knitwear?
Yes. Fully fashioned knitwear requires specialized machinery and manufacturing capabilities, so it follows a different development process from our New York cut-and-sew production.
Knitwear sampling and production are managed through Final Row using specialized overseas manufacturing capabilities.
What is the MOQ for knitwear?
Our standard knitwear production MOQ is approximately 100 pieces per style, generally with a minimum of 50 pieces per color.
For example: 100 pieces = 50 Navy + 50 Ivory.
Actual requirements may vary according to yarn, construction, and production conditions.
How much does a knitwear sample cost?
Knitwear samples generally start around $350, depending on yarn, gauge, stitch structure, construction, and complexity.
Typical sample development takes approximately 3 weeks once the necessary information and materials are confirmed.
Do I need to provide yarn for knitwear sampling?
Not necessarily. You may provide your own yarn, or we can assist with sourcing based on the intended fiber content, weight, texture, color, gauge, and reference garment.
Clear close-up images and a physical reference garment are strongly recommended when an exact or complex stitch structure needs to be reproduced.
SPECIAL SERVICES
Do you offer printing, embroidery, or other specialized finishing?
These services are not performed directly by every machine within our New York studio.
When appropriate, we can coordinate certain specialized operations through outside specialists. Availability, pricing, MOQ, and lead time depend on the technique and project.
Do you offer washing or garment dyeing?
These processes require specialized outside facilities and are reviewed on a project-by-project basis.
Please tell us the intended wash, dye, or finishing treatment when submitting the project so we can determine whether it can be properly coordinated.
Can you help with labels, hangtags, and packaging?
Yes. As part of our sourcing or full-package services, we can assist with woven brand labels, care/content labels, size labels, hangtags, inventory stickers, poly bags, and final packaging.
This can be coordinated with production so finished garments are prepared for the client's next sales or fulfillment stage.
PAYMENT & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
What are your production payment terms?
For production orders, our standard payment structure is generally:
50% deposit to begin production
50% remaining balance before completed goods are released or picked up
Any project-specific payment terms are confirmed with the production quote.
When does production officially begin?
Production begins after the required approvals, materials, and initial payment have been completed.
This typically includes the approved sample, final pattern, size breakdown, quantities, fabrics, trims, labels, and other applicable production information.
A production timeline cannot reliably begin while essential materials or approvals are still outstanding.
Can you rush a project?
Sometimes. Rush availability depends on the garment, development required, quantity, materials, and our current production schedule.
Please provide your required delivery date when submitting the project.
We will not promise a deadline that we do not believe we can realistically meet.
VISITS & COMMUNICATION
Can I visit Final Row Studio?
Yes. Final Row is located in Manhattan's Garment District at 327 W 36th Street 3F, New York, NY.
Studio visits are available by appointment so we can make sure someone is available to properly review your project.
Can we work together if I am not in New York?
Yes. Many parts of the development and production process can be coordinated remotely through email, reference materials, shipped samples, measurements, and video communication when necessary.
Physical garments, materials, and samples can be shipped between the client and Final Row during development.
How should I contact you about a new project?
Send us the information you currently have rather than waiting until everything is perfect.
The most useful starting information is:
What you want to make + references + intended quantity + target timeline + any available measurements, patterns, tech packs, fabrics, or physical samples.
We will review the project and explain what we can do, what we need from you, approximate pricing where possible, and the appropriate next step.
