KNITWEAR SAMPLING

Final Row provides knitwear sample development for sweaters and other fully fashioned knitwear, with development and communication managed through our New York team.

Knitwear requires specialized machinery and technical knowledge that differs from traditional cut-and-sew development. Our role is to manage that process for you — from reviewing your initial concept and selecting the appropriate yarn and construction to developing the finished sample.

At a Glance

  • Typical Sampling Timeline: Approximately 3 weeks
  • Sample Pricing: Starting around $350
  • Yarn Sourcing: Available
  • Tech Pack: Recommended

  • Production After Approval: Available

Pricing and lead times may vary depending on yarn, stitch construction, design complexity, and material availability.

How Knitwear Development Works

Unlike traditional cut-and-sew garments, fully fashioned knitwear does not always require a separate paper pattern.

If your tech pack includes sufficient measurements, construction details, and visual references, we can proceed directly into sample development.

We work to reproduce the intended silhouette, measurements, yarn, gauge, stitch structure, texture, and overall appearance as accurately as possible based on the information provided.

For designs with specific or complex knit structures, a physical reference garment can significantly improve development accuracy.

What We Need to Get Started

Please provide as much information as possible:

  • Tech pack or detailed measurements
  • Front and back reference images
  • Close-up images of the knit structure
  • Yarn composition, if known
  • Stitch type
  • Gauge, if known
  • Target fit and size
  • Physical reference garment, if available

You do not need to know every technical knit specification before contacting us.

If you are unsure about yarn size, gauge, or stitch construction, we can review your references and recommend an appropriate direction for development.

Yarn Sourcing

Clients may provide their own yarn or have Final Row assist with sourcing.

If you already have a specific yarn in mind, send us the yarn information or physical material for evaluation.

If not, we can source suitable options based on the desired:

  • Fiber content
  • Weight
  • Texture
  • Gauge
  • Color
  • Hand feel
  • Reference garment

Depending on the project, available yarns may include cashmere, wool, cotton, and various blends.

Final availability and pricing depend on the yarn and production requirements.

Sampling Process

1. Project Review
We review your tech pack, measurements, references, intended fit, yarn, and knit construction.

2. Technical Review
Gauge, yarn, stitch structure, and production requirements are evaluated.

3. Yarn Selection
Client-provided yarn is reviewed or appropriate yarn options are sourced.

4. Sample Development
The first knitwear sample is developed according to the confirmed specifications.

5. Sample Review
Fit, measurements, yarn, construction, stitch appearance, and overall proportions are evaluated.

6. Corrections & Approval
Necessary adjustments are made before the sample is approved for production.

Additional development may be required for highly specialized stitches or constructions.

Sample Pricing

Starting around $350 per sample.

Final sampling cost depends on the yarn, gauge, stitch complexity, construction, and amount of development required.

We review the project before confirming the final sampling quote so you understand the expected cost before development begins.
