PATTERN MAKING

PROFESSIONAL PATTERN DEVELOPMENT, MADE IN NEW YORK.

Final Row provides professional pattern-making services through our studio in Manhattan’s Garment District.

A well-developed pattern is the foundation of a well-made garment. Our pattern makers translate your design into a physical pattern while considering fit, proportion, construction, fabric behavior, and the intended silhouette.

You do not need a complete tech pack to begin.

If you can provide clear measurements, reference images, sketches, a physical reference garment, or detailed instructions, we can review the project and determine what is needed to develop the pattern accurately.

PATTERN MAKING PRICING

Starting at $150 per style

Pattern pricing depends on the garment type, construction, complexity, and amount of development required.

Straightforward garments generally require less development, while tailored pieces, lined garments, complex constructions, or designs requiring extensive interpretation may cost more.

We review the project before beginning and confirm the pattern-making cost in advance.

WHAT WE NEED TO GET STARTED

You can send us any combination of:

  • Sketches
  • Reference images
  • Tech pack, if available
  • Measurements
  • Size information
  • Physical reference garment
  • Fabric information
  • Construction details
  • Written instructions

A tech pack is helpful, but not required.

If the information you provide is sufficient to understand the intended garment, we can move directly into pattern development.

If something important is missing, we will tell you what we need before starting.

FROM DESIGN TO PHYSICAL PATTERN

Our pattern makers interpret the design while considering how the finished garment needs to fit, move, and be constructed.

Depending on the project, pattern development may consider:

  • Overall silhouette
  • Garment balance
  • Fit and ease
  • Shoulder and armhole shape
  • Sleeve construction
  • Waist and hip proportions
  • Rise and leg shape
  • Seam placement
  • Fabric characteristics
  • Construction method
  • Finishing requirements

The objective is not simply to reproduce measurements on paper.

The pattern must translate the intended design into a garment that works on the body.

PATTERN + SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT

Pattern making and sampling are closely connected.

Once the initial pattern is completed, Final Row can construct the first physical sample through our New York studio.

The sample allows us to evaluate the actual:

  • Fit
  • Proportion
  • Balance
  • Length
  • Construction
  • Design details
  • Fabric behavior

If corrections are required, the pattern can be adjusted based on the fitting before the next sample or production stage.

This process continues until the garment is ready for approval.

FITTING & PATTERN CORRECTIONS

A first pattern is not always a final pattern.

Some designs require adjustments after the garment is physically sampled and fitted.

Final Row can review the sample, identify necessary corrections, and update the pattern accordingly.

Depending on the project, corrections may include changes to fit, proportion, length, ease, balance, construction, or design details.

Additional sample making or extensive design changes may involve additional charges. We will discuss these with you before proceeding.

SIZE GRADING

Once the base pattern and sample are approved, size grading is available as an additional service.

The approved base size can be graded into the required production size range according to the specifications of the project.

Grading pricing depends on the garment and number of sizes required.

PHYSICAL & DIGITAL PATTERNS

Our development process is based on professional physical production patterns.

If digital pattern files are required for your own records or production elsewhere, digitization can also be arranged for an additional fee.

Let us know before completion if you require a specific digital pattern format.

YOUR PATTERN BELONGS TO YOUR BRAND

Patterns created and paid for by the client belong to the client.

You may continue into sampling and production with Final Row, or use your completed development with another manufacturer in the future.

We believe clients should continue working with Final Row because they trust our work — not because their patterns are being held by us.

START YOUR PATTERN

Send us your sketch, reference images, measurements, tech pack, or physical reference garment along with a description of the intended fit and construction.

We will review the project first, confirm what information is needed, and provide the pattern-making price before development begins.

If we do not have enough information to develop the pattern accurately, we will tell you before accepting the project.
