SAMPLE MAKING
PROFESSIONAL GARMENT SAMPLES MADE IN OUR NEW YORK STUDIO.
Final Row provides professional sample-making services through our studio in Manhattan’s Garment District.
Whether you are developing a new design, refining an existing garment, or preparing a style for production, our sample makers turn your pattern and specifications into a physical garment that can be evaluated for fit, proportion, construction, function, and overall design.
You do not need a complete tech pack to begin.
If you have clear measurements, reference images, a physical reference garment, a pattern, or detailed instructions, we can review the project and determine what is needed to create your first sample.
SAMPLE MAKING PRICING
Starting at $120 per sample
Sample pricing depends on the garment type, construction, materials, and complexity of the design.
Simple garments generally require less development, while tailored garments, linings, complex closures, specialized construction, multiple layers, or detailed finishing may require additional time and cost.
The starting prices published on our website are intended to provide a realistic reference before you contact us.
We review the actual project and confirm the sample price before work begins.
WHAT WE NEED TO GET STARTED
Depending on the project, you can provide:
- Pattern, if already developed
- Tech pack, if available
- Sketches
- Reference images
- Measurements and target size
- Physical reference garment
- Fabric
- Trims
- Construction instructions
A complete tech pack is not required if the information provided is sufficient for us to understand the garment.
If you do not yet have a pattern, Final Row can develop one before sample making begins.
FABRIC & TRIMS FOR SAMPLING
For most sample projects, clients provide the fabric and trims they want used for development.
This allows the sample to accurately reflect the intended material, weight, drape, stretch, hardware, and finishing.
If you do not have materials prepared, sourcing assistance may also be available depending on the project.
Before sample making begins, we will confirm what materials and components are required.
FROM PATTERN TO PHYSICAL SAMPLE
Once the pattern, materials, and construction details are ready, our New York sample makers construct the first garment.
During sample making, we pay attention to:
- Garment construction
- Fit and proportion
- Seam and stitch execution
- Fabric behavior
- Design details
- Functional movement
- Closures and trims
- Finishing
The purpose of the first sample is not simply to produce one finished garment.
It allows the design to be evaluated in physical form before committing to production.
FITTING & CORRECTIONS
Once the first sample is completed, it can be reviewed for fit, proportion, construction, and design accuracy.
If changes are required, Final Row can identify the necessary corrections and update the pattern accordingly.
Depending on the project, this may involve adjustments to:
- Overall fit
- Silhouette
- Length
- Proportion
- Ease
- Shoulder and armhole
- Sleeve
- Waist and hip
- Rise and leg shape
- Construction details
- Finishing
Additional samples may be required when substantial changes are made.
We will explain what needs to be corrected before proceeding with additional development.
SAMPLE APPROVAL
Once the garment's fit, construction, measurements, materials, and design details are approved, the sample becomes the reference for the next stage of development.
From there, Final Row can provide:
Pattern Corrections → Size Grading → Production Preparation → Small-Batch Production
For clients who only require sample development, the completed sample and development materials can also be used for production elsewhere.
FROM ONE SAMPLE TO PRODUCTION
Because pattern making, sample making, fitting, corrections, grading, cutting, and production can all be coordinated through Final Row, a project does not need to be transferred between multiple independent vendors during development.
Once your sample is approved, we can move directly into small-batch production through our New York studio, starting at our standard production MOQ.
For larger quantities, additional production options may also be available depending on the project.
CLEAR EXPECTATIONS BEFORE WE START
Not every garment requires the same amount of development.
Before accepting a sample project, we review the construction, materials, references, and information provided.
If additional pattern work, technical information, specialized machinery, or another development step is required, we will tell you before beginning the sample.
If a project is not suitable for our capabilities, we will tell you that as well.
Our goal is to develop the garment accurately without adding unnecessary steps or costs.
START YOUR SAMPLE
Send us your pattern, sketches, reference images, measurements, tech pack, or physical reference garment, along with information about the fabric and trims you intend to use.
We will review the project and provide the sample price, required materials, and next steps before development begins.
